Some of you may be aware that in November Lanzarote suffered a hurricane! Although some damage occurred on the island, Lanzarote was least affected of all the Canaries as it is the most easterly.
At Playa Flamingo, (the beach near the Timanfaya Hotel) the bay walls were badly affected and the sand washed away. This isn’t however that unusual as the sand will often naturally dredge along the coast. The clean up operation has already begun in earnest and we are told that normal service will resume shortly!
The village beach was also washed away but will naturally come back (this happens usually once or twice a year). Beautiful clean sand for all to enjoy!
The Dorada beach was unaffected.
Las Brisas was well informed and organised with the staff ensuring everyone inside their holiday homes before the storm began. Everyone was told to keep doors and windows shut and NO building damage occurred in the resort at all due to the preventative measures taken. However, over 60 trees were victim to the 90mph winds which many feel could be a good thing!! It was a miracle how they only fell on paths and caused no structural damage!
Angel Riviero and his team can only be praised for their hard work and commitment to the clear up operation and everyone (including Angel) stayed till it was nearly dark with the chain saws ensuring that the paths were safe once again.
I’m pleased to say its much quieter now!
Pool towels will now be given out on arrival at Las Brisas and all will be required to pay a deposit of €15 euros per towel. This is refunded at the end of your stay and can be done on a credit card for ease. The towels can be exchanged for clean ones on a Friday morning at Las Brisas reception. This system has been on trial for a while now and is working very well.
